LENTEN RESOURCES and SIGN-UPS - Don't let Lent Pass You By
Lent is a 40-day season beginning with Ash Wednesday and culminating with Easter that is neither a punishment or a way to earn our salvation through "works of righteousness." Lent is a season dedicated to, as Saint Paul says, "Mortification of the flesh."
It's a time to journey with the Lord in which we think about our own sin, those ways of being and thinking that distance us from God. Lest we be discouraged, St. Paul writes, “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). This renewal is not something we do, but rather something the Holy Spirit does in us.
We can, however, ‘quench the spirit’ by resisting His sanctifying work and returning to the old life of sin (1 Thessalonians 5:19-25). Think of Lent as a spiritual tune-up focused on a simple question: how am I quenching the Holy Spirit in my life?
There are several ways that you can participate in this season as we look expectantly toward Easter:
Individual Devotionals
On Sunday, or whenever you have a chance, stop by the Church Library to pick up a copy of Living Well through Lent, a daily meditation. A second resource available is Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John.
Sign up for one of our Lenten Groups
These groups are for six weeks and meet on Tuesday nights, Wednesday at noon, Thursday and Sunday evenings. Please go to the schedule and sign-up. Once you sign up your host will be in touch with you. The groups will be using the popular Gospeled Lives: Encounters with Jesus as a resource.
