In response to the tragic drowning of the 6 teenagers in Shreveport, Louisiana, St. Timothy’s offered swimming lessons to Brazoria county elementary students who came to the Dream Center for the Back to School Bash. Our ultimate hope is to provide water safety instruction for every 2nd grader in Brazoria county so none become drowning victims. |

Nine hours of classes have been in
progress since September 7th. Four swimming instructors and one
lifeguard have been corralled by Doris Slick, (the best Red Cross
instructor in our county!) Clute Parks and Recreation Department is
allowing the use of their city pool. Families have been contacted
and there are currently 13 students learning how to be water safe
and to overcome their fears of water. Parents, as well as their children, are encouraged to get in the pool. There has been enormous progress after the first few lessons. Doris has a magical way of instilling confidence and competence in everyone. |
