The
Rev. Andrew Parker finds his inspiration and assurance in the good
news of Christ’s resurrection. His deepest joy as pastor comes
in seeing that resurrected life strike root and blossom in the people
of St. Timothy’s. He cherishes the wellsprings of ancient
orthodox Christianity--worship, reflection on scripture, contemplative
prayer, community and simplicity of life, knowing the Holy Spirit
touches people in these ways and empowers them to reach out beyond
themselves to others.
Andy was born and lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma until age twelve,
when his family moved to Lubbock, Texas. He was graduated from Texas
Tech University in classical humanities in 1978 and took a master’s
degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M University in 1983, both
summa cum laude. He then worked for the Texas Agricultural
Experiment Station until entering Berkeley Divinity School at Yale
in New Haven, Connecticut. There he met and married the love of
his life, the Rev. Elizabeth Welch Parker. The couple served parishes
in Abilene and Amarillo, where they were blessed with the births
of three bouncing boys. In 2001 Andy and Liz answered the call to
serve St. Timothy’s.
Andy was elected to the founding Board of Directors for the North
American Association for the Catechumenate and currently serves
on the diocesan Adult Christian Formation Committee and as Dean
of the Southwest Convocation. He is the author of Keeping the
Promise: A Mentoring Program for Confirmation, in continuous
publication by Morehouse Publishing since 1994. He loves bicycling
and running and making and writing music. |
